Jackie Millard grew up a country girl with a desire to be a teacher. She went to John Carroll University, right outside Cleveland, Ohio, where God changed her plans and led her to obtain a bachelor’s degree in computer science along with a minor in mathematics. She began her career with Rockwell Automation, where she was employed as a software engineer for eight years.
When Jackie became pregnant with her first child in 2003, she felt a calling to stay home and homeschool, leading her to retire from software and stay home with her children. She often told friends that she was indeed a teacher after all, just not in the way that she imagined when she was younger!
Now, Jackie feels called and blessed to begin teaching with Big River Academy as a computer skills teacher after homeschooling for nineteen years. She has enjoyed teaching classes with a local homeschool group since 2008, and is excited to bring her skills to Big River. She feels blessed to be given this new chapter of her life, and looks forward to helping your student(s) understand the ins and outs of Microsoft Office, including color-coded Excel spreadsheets (her specialty!).
She is currently a member of Parkside Church, and has been for more than twenty years. For nine years, she was the founding and lead advisor of a local 4-H club she formed for her kids. When Jackie isn’t teaching her two sons, helping her newly adult daughter navigate life, or shuttling kids to swim practices, you can find her knitting or crocheting, playing board games with her family, going for walks with her husband (and high school sweetheart) of 25 years, photography, attending off-Broadway shows at the local theater, and camping.
